Trump Threatens 200% Tariff on John Deere if Manufacturing Shifts to Mexico

Former President Donald Trump has delivered a strong warning to agricultural equipment leader John Deere, threatening a 200 percent tariff on their products if the company relocates manufacturing operations to Mexico. This announcement was made during a roundtable discussion on Monday in Smithton, Pennsylvania, where Trump spoke to farmers and political supporters.

Surrounded by John Deere tractors, Trump praised the company but firmly opposed any potential outsourcing.

“I’m just notifying John Deere right now: If you do that, we’re putting a 200-percent tariff on everything that you want to sell into the United States,” Trump declared.

Breitbart News reported that the Republican presidential candidate’s remarks follow John Deere’s recent announcement of hundreds of layoffs at its plants in East Moline, Illinois, and Davenport, Iowa.

These job cuts, effective August 30, have raised concerns about the company’s future manufacturing strategies.

Trump suggested that John Deere may be looking to relocate to Mexico for lower labor costs, while still planning to sell products in the U.S. at current prices.

He contended that this approach would harm American jobs and workers.

According to Trump, the proposed 200 percent tariff would act as a deterrent against offshoring.

He highlighted two possible outcomes: the U.S. could earn substantial revenue from the tariff, or John Deere might rethink its plans to move manufacturing operations.

Trump stressed that his tariff warning applies not only to John Deere but to any company considering relocation to Mexico for production.

He noted that products made domestically would be exempt from the tariff, potentially encouraging companies to maintain production in the U.S.

The former president expressed confidence that his position could impact corporate decisions.

“You know what’s going to happen? They’re going to announce very shortly if they think I’m going to win, or, if I do win, they’re going to announce that they’re not going to build in Mexico,” Trump predicted.

While Trump recognized his personal use and appreciation for John Deere products, he stood resolute in his commitment to safeguarding American manufacturing jobs.

The roundtable discussion, featuring prominent figures like former Acting Director of National Security Ric Grenell and Republican Pennsylvania Senate nominee Dave McCormick, underscored the significance of this issue in Trump’s political platform.

John Deere is facing controversy after a shocking report by internet commentator Robby Starbuck.

Starbuck, who has gained attention recently for calling out American companies on their woke policies and diversity initiatives, criticized John Deere for “choosing to maintain their DEI department.”

“The only company to thrive after my reporting is Tractor Supply who did a FULL rejection of woke policies and DEI,” Starbuck posted on X.

“I just received a video from inside Deere that isn’t gonna help.”
