Former President Donald Trump has planned a return to Butler, Pennsylvania, for a rally dedicated to Corey Comperatore, who was tragically killed in the city during Trump’s previous event.
During his last visit to Butler, Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt when a 20-year-old gunman fired at him from over 130 yards away.
One of the gunman’s bullets sadly hit Comperatore, who was protecting his wife and daughters during the shooting.
The former president has announced plans to hold a “big and beautiful rally” to honor Comperatore and others who were injured, according to Breitbart News.
“I WILL BE GOING BACK TO BUTLER, PENNSYLVANIA, FOR A BIG AND BEAUTIFUL RALLY, HONORING THE SOUL OF OUR BELOVED FIREFIGHTING HERO, COREY, AND THOSE BRAVE PATRIOTS INJURED TWO WEEKS AGO,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“WHAT A DAY IT WILL BE — FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT! STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS,” he added.
During his speech at the RNC in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Trump notably kissed Comperatore’s uniform and paid tribute to him.
In recent congressional testimony, FBI Director Christopher Wray expressed uncertainty about whether Trump was hit by a bullet or shattered glass.
“No, it was, unfortunately, a bullet that hit my ear, and hit it hard,” the former president said, referencing Wray’s comments.
“There was no glass, there was no shrapnel,” he added. “No wonder the once storied FBI has lost the confidence of America.”
The assassination attempt on Trump’s life clearly highlighted a failure on the part of the Secret Service. Despite prior warnings about the shooter, the agency did not apprehend him before he fired at the former president.
Consequently, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned.
“In light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that, I have made the difficult decision to step down as your Director,” Cheatle said in her resignation letter.
In light of the tragic events in Butler, the Secret Service has advised the former president to avoid holding any more outdoor rallies.
The Trump campaign seems to be heeding this advice, as the former president’s last two rallies have been held indoors.
Trump’s latest announcement follows his visit to Pennsylvania nearly two weeks ago. Since then, he has named Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) as his running mate and officially secured the GOP’s presidential nomination.
With President Joe Biden ending his reelection campaign, Trump is now projected to face Vice President Kamala Harris in the general election this fall.
Despite his injuries, Trump appears to be recovering well, with no long-term effects anticipated. According to his former White House physician, Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), the former president is “doing extremely well.”

“As a former White House physician for 14 years, who served during three presidential administrations, and served as the appointed physician for both President Obama and President Trump, I fully understand the global significance of this attempt on the life of the former President and the current Republican Nominee for President,” the statement reads.
“As such, I want to reassure the American people and the rest of the world, that President Trump is doing extremely well,” it continues.
