Survey Finds Trump Ahead of Biden in Crucial Swing State Pennsylvania

Former President Donald Trump is currently ahead of President Joe Biden in Pennsylvania, a critical swing state, as revealed by the latest Cygnal survey published on Monday.

According to the survey, Trump holds a four-point lead over Biden in a direct comparison, receiving 48 percent support compared to Biden’s 44 percent. Meanwhile, eight percent of respondents have yet to make a decision.

Among swing voters, Trump leads Biden by seven points, with 37 percent supporting Trump versus 30 percent supporting Biden in a head-to-head matchup. Additionally, Trump maintains a significant 15-point lead among independent voters in Pennsylvania.

In a scenario that includes third-party candidates, Trump holds a lead with 42 percent of the vote. Biden follows with 38 percent, trailing by four points. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. garners nine percent support, while Cornel West and Green Party candidate Jill Stein each capture two percent. Six percent of respondents are undecided.

The survey holds significance as it was conducted both before and after Thursday’s presidential debate, spanning June 27-28, 2024, and involving 800 likely voters. The margin of error is +/- 3.45 percent.

The survey also provided insights into the debate, revealing that “22% of debate viewers expressed predominantly negative opinions about Biden, compared to only 13% for Trump (18% felt negatively about both candidates).”

“Among voters who are open to persuasion in the presidential election (leaning towards Trump, Biden, or undecided), those who watched or followed the debate afterward perceived Trump more positively than Biden,” the survey noted, highlighting impactful quotes from some respondents.

“We need a young, passionate progressive person- I felt embarrassed and doomed” – Male, 45-54, probably Biden voter

“Biden should step down now. Who is running our country?” – Female, 65+, probably Trump voter

“Joe Biden should step aside due to age” – Female, 30-44, probably Biden voter

“Biden is to [sic] old to run again” – Female, 55-64, undecided voter

Following the debate, initial widespread concern among Democrats was evident, but Biden’s campaign, along with his family, has reinforced their commitment that he will continue in the race.

On Friday, Biden campaign spokesperson Seth Schuster assured The Hill that Biden had no plans to withdraw, and Biden’s family gathered at Camp David, reportedly encouraging him to persevere.
