While he is pro-life, he is also “glad the American citizens have a chance to vote in their state,” noting that Kennedy shares the same sentiment.
While recounting his conversation with Kennedy to reporters, Senator Tuberville shared that they also discussed how Kennedy would approach the agriculture industry, given his strong belief that the American food system is fundamentally flawed. Republicans from agricultural states have voiced concerns that Kennedy might impose restrictions on modern farming techniques. A Michigan soybean and corn farmer even described Kennedy’s potential nomination as a “danger” to the agriculture industry.
Tuberville acknowledged these concerns after his meeting with Kennedy, telling reporters that while his constituents are “very concerned” about food safety, they oppose regulations so strict that they could jeopardize farmers’ livelihoods.
“I can understand that,” Tuberville said regarding his constituents’ concerns. “And he’s very on board. He understands our farmers are in trouble, and we want to make sure that we have farmers who can make a living and that we don’t lose our family farms.”
