Rep. Nancy Mace cites trans lawmaker as justification for bathroom bill: ‘A penis in the women’s locker room — that’s not acceptable’

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) stated on Tuesday that transgender Democratic Rep.-elect Sarah McBride is “absolutely” the inspiration for her proposed bathroom bill, which aims to prohibit trans women from using women’s restrooms within the Capitol.

“I’m not going to stand for a man, someone with a penis in the women’s locker room — that’s not ok,” Mace said.

“I’m a victim of abuse myself. I’m a rape survivor. I have PTSD from the abuse I’ve suffered at the hands of a man,” she continued.

“I know vulnerable how women and girls are in private spaces so I’m absolutely 100% going to stand in the way of any man who wants to be in a women’s restroom.”

This follows Mace’s introduction of a resolution on Monday to prohibit transgender women from using women’s restrooms, prompting swift criticism from McBride, who is poised to become the first openly transgender member of Congress.
