Putin Endorses Harris for President

Russian President Vladimir Putin has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the upcoming November US presidential election.

At Russia’s Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Putin made this surprising announcement just a day after the United States issued indictments accusing Moscow of interfering in the election.

Putin, known for his frequently derisive remarks about US politics, referred to President Joe Biden’s endorsement of Harris after Biden exited the race.

“Firstly, Biden recommended all his supporters support Mrs. Harris,” Putin said.

“Here, we are going to do that too, we’re going to support her,” he added with a wry smile, as outlined by Insider Paper (IP).

The Russian leader continued by complimenting Harris’s laugh, saying, “Her infectious laughter indicates that everything is going well with her.”

He also proposed that Harris might be less likely to impose sanctions on Russia than President Donald Trump, who, according to Putin, had implemented numerous sanctions during his presidency.

This endorsement sharply contrasts with Putin’s earlier statements, according to IP.

In February, he had supported Biden over Trump, describing the current president as more “predictable.”

The White House responded by urging Putin to “stay out” of US elections.

The timing of Putin’s comments is particularly significant, occurring just a day after the United States indicted two employees of the state-run Russian news network RT and imposed sanctions on its top editors.

The US Treasury Department accused them of trying to influence the upcoming US election.

In reaction to these sanctions, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the accusations as false, characterizing them as “an obvious operation, an information campaign… that was long prepared.”

IP reported that she warned of a severe response that would make “everyone shudder.”

US officials have consistently warned about foreign interference in American elections, with allegations against Moscow dating back to the 2016 race between Trump and Hillary Clinton.

Concerns about foreign meddling remain high for the upcoming election.

Trump has claimed he could end the Ukraine conflict within “24 hours” if re-elected and has praised Putin as a “very smart cookie.”

According to a statement from July, Putin took these remarks “quite seriously.”

As the US presidential race intensifies, Putin’s surprising endorsement of Harris adds another layer of complexity to an already contentious election season.

One X user said of the news, “Putin has endorsed Kamala Harris. He knows who will be more predictable and controllable.”

“I’ll stick with the guy that Putin is afraid of,” he added.

Another wrote, “Putin prefers Harris over Trump. Of course he does.”

“If you were Putin, who would you want in charge? The guy with a vision to make America STRONG,” the commenter continued.

“Or the literal communist who will continue to contribute to America’s decline.”
