Former President Donald J. Trump has nominated Herschel Walker to serve as the United States Ambassador to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, commending his long-standing commitment to public service, athletic achievements, and mental health advocacy.
In his announcement, Trump praised Walker’s wide-ranging accomplishments, stating:
“Herschel has spent decades serving as an Ambassador to our Nation’s youth, our men and women in the Military, and athletes at home and abroad,” Trump said. “Congratulations, Herschel! You will make Georgia, and our entire Nation, proud, because we know you will always put AMERICA FIRST!”
Walker, a Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL star, has excelled in sports, business, and philanthropy. During Trump’s first term, Walker served as Co-Chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, where he championed youth sports and physical fitness. He has also visited over 400 military installations globally, advocating for mental health awareness and reducing stigma among service members.
In addition to his public service, Walker represented the United States as a member of the 1992 Winter Olympics bobsled team, further cementing his role as a global sports ambassador.
Trump emphasized Walker’s dedication to youth advocacy and American values, describing him as a fitting representative for the nation on the international stage.
Walker’s nomination is subject to Senate confirmation before he can officially take on the role of ambassador to the Bahamas.
Trump’s selection underscores his focus on strengthening U.S.-Bahamas relations while appointing a figure deeply connected to public service and national pride.
