Legislator Who Advocated for Budget Cuts to Fani Willis’ Office Faces Suspension from Caucus

Georgia State Senator Colton Moore has faced repercussions within his party, as he has been suspended from the GOP Caucus and ousted from the Senate Freedom Caucus. This decision comes in the aftermath of his call to defund the investigation led by the left-leaning Fulton County District Attorney, Fani Willis, into former President Trump.

In a letter addressed to Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, Moore articulated his intention to remove all financial support from the district attorney’s office due to what he perceived as a partisan inquiry against the former president. He also urged his supporters to endorse a petition aimed at halting what he described as the misuse of the justice system, with the burden falling on taxpayers.

However, Governor Kemp swiftly rejected Moore’s proposal, citing its infringement on Georgia law.

“There have been calls by one individual in the General Assembly and echoed outside these walls by the former president for a special session that would ignore current Georgia law and directly interfere with the proceedings of a separate but equal branch of government,” he said during a press conference.

On Thursday, the Georgia GOP escalated the situation by suspending Moore from the Republican Caucus.

“Today’s removal is a direct result of me calling on my Republican colleagues in the Senate to do their job and sign onto an emergency session to investigate Fani Willis,” Moore told Breitbart News in a statement.

“The Georgia Constitution clearly outlines the legislature’s power to call an emergency session to investigate a judicial officer. After urging my Republican Senate colleagues to join me — they responded by acting like children and throwing me out of the caucus,” he continued.
