Kari Lake Declares Candidacy for Arizona’s U.S. Senate Seat

Unsurprisingly, the former news anchor who also ran for Arizona governor in 2022 has officially declared her candidacy for the 2024 Senate election.

This anticipated election is expected to be a competitive three-way contest, with Kari Lake as one of the Republican contenders, alongside Blake Masters and Sheriff Mark Lamb. The primary winner will go head-to-head with the incumbent, Kyrsten Sinema, who is running as an independent, and Democrat Ruben Gallego.

Incumbent Kyrsten Sinema, who transitioned from the Democratic Party to Independent status in 2021, has yet to make a formal declaration of her candidacy for the 2024 election.

Fox News has highlighted that the 2024 Arizona election is poised to be among the most closely observed races of the year. Additionally, former President Donald Trump has given his informal endorsement to Kari Lake.

After a closely contested and disputed gubernatorial campaign, Lake faced defeat but managed to stay in the public eye. She challenged the election results and appeared to position herself for a potential invitation as Trump’s Vice President.

Clearly focused on building a national presence, Lake has organized rallies across 14 states in the past three months. At these gatherings, she frequently lends her support to local conservative Republican candidates and discusses issues of national significance that she believes Republicans are most qualified to tackle.

The determined politician recently addressed a Scottsdale, Arizona crowd, declaring, “I won’t back down. I’ll stand alongside each of you on this hill, and with your support, I officially announce my candidacy for the United States Senate.”

Upon announcing her candidacy, Lake conveyed, “I’m committed to the people of Arizona, and when you choose me for the United States Senate, you’re selecting a dedicated advocate determined to safeguard not only my own children but the whole state of Arizona and the United States of America. I pledge to make you proud.”

In the race for the GOP nomination, Lake will compete against Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, the sole significant candidate in this category. The victor is expected to contend against Phoenix-area Democrat Representative Ruben Gallego, widely regarded as the leading candidate for his party’s nomination.

Lamb, who presents a substantial challenge to Lake, asserted in a recent statement that he is the “only established conservative victor.”

Lamb added: “I am a lifelong conservative who has dedicated my life to protecting Arizonans and keeping them safe when Democrat policies make that job almost impossible. I have been in Arizona fighting for the people that call this great state home. I’m not a talker, I’m a doer, and I win elections. That is what separates me from my opponents.”

Gallego swiped at Lake’s announcement by saying that voters would reject her “again,” a reference to her contested loss to current Gov. Katie Hobbs.
