James Biden asserts that Joe Biden was ‘never’ involved in the family business

James Biden, the brother of President Joe Biden, testified before the impeachment inquiry on Wednesday that Joe Biden was never directly or indirectly involved or had any financial interest in his business endeavors. This statement comes after House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY), a former bank board member, discovered in October that a $200,000 check from Americore, a company accused of defrauding Medicare, was deposited into Joe Biden’s bank account through James Biden.

James Biden refuted the assertion that the check was a result of a prior business arrangement. Instead, he explained that the funds were repayment for a loan Joe Biden had extended to him. When Comer asked for documentation of this supposed loan, the White House declined to provide it.

James Biden, in response to Comer’s conclusions, seemed to share parts of his opening statement with select media outlets.

1. I have had a 50-year career in a variety of business ventures. Joe Biden has never had any involvement or any direct or indirect financial interest in those activities. None.

2. Because of my intimate knowledge of my brother’s personal integrity and character, as well as my own strong ethics, I have always kept my professional life separate from our close personal relationship.

3. I never asked my brother to take any official action on behalf of me, my business associates, or anyone else.

In September, Comer issued subpoenas to James Biden’s Lion Hall Group and JBBSR, Inc. These subpoenas were primarily aimed at obtaining records related to Joe Biden’s company, “CelticCapri Corp,” which received close to $10 million in 2017 without specifying the sources of revenue.

James Biden is the younger brother of Joe Biden and the uncle of Hunter Biden. Both James and Hunter were involved in business ventures with CEFC China Energy Co., an organization closely affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The committee discovered through Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) in March that a $3 million wire transfer was made to Biden associate Rob Walker by CEFC. Subsequently, four members of the Biden family — Hunter, James, Hallie, and an unidentified individual listed as “Biden” — collectively received a $1.3 million share of the $3 million wire transfer.
