“In July Polls, Trump Dominates Harris Across 13 National Surveys”

In July, former President Donald Trump is ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris in 13 national polls. These surveys suggest that Harris faces similar challenges in defeating Trump as President Joe Biden did. According to RealClearPolitics’ polling average, Harris’s favorability rating is just one point lower than Biden’s.

Trump commented on Sunday that Harris would be a more vulnerable candidate to challenge in November compared to Biden, who recently withdrew as the Democratic Party’s presumed nominee.

The 13 polls also challenge the findings of Fernand Amandi, a former pollster for President Barack Obama, who released an internal survey on July 9 indicating that Harris was leading Trump by one point.

Obama, who seemed to have a significant influence behind the scenes in Biden’s decision to step aside, did not publicly question Biden’s candidacy until Wednesday, as reported in a Washington Post leak. This leak came shortly after reports surfaced that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer privately advised the president to withdraw.

The timing of the leak suggests a coordinated effort by Democratic leaders to encourage Biden to drop out following weeks of internal party turmoil exacerbated by ongoing media scrutiny of Biden’s political viability. According to Playbook, “The strategy here is that Obama, Pelosi, Jeffries, and Schumer do not want to be perceived as orchestrating a Harris coronation behind closed doors. Instead, they aim to unify the party when there’s a definitive nominee.”
