Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on ABC’s “The View” on Tuesday. Despite CNN’s Brian Stelter promising challenging questions for the Democrats’ default candidate, host Whoopi Goldberg opened with an easy question. Goldberg introduced Harris as “the next president of the United States.”

Goldberg’s first question to Harris was similarly soft. Rather than allowing the vice president to discuss policy—which the American public has expressed interest in—Goldberg asked how Harris felt upon learning that President Joe Biden would exit the 2024 presidential race and endorse her as his successor.
“You’ve barely taken a breath since, you know, 79 days ago when President Biden called your house and said he was stepping down and passing you the torch,” Goldberg said.

Harris shared that she initially asked Biden if he was certain about his decision to step aside. After their discussion met her approval, her immediate reaction was to go to church.
“The rest of the day … was surreal, I’ll tell you, honestly, one of the first people I called was my pastor,” she continued. “I mean, I needed to talk to God, you know, and to pray. It was — I understood in real time what was happening and obviously then it really set in in the hours and days to come. That was quite a day.”
President Biden appeared on “The View” just a week prior and did not refute claims that influential figures within his own party effectively pushed him out of the 2024 presidential race.
