Harris ridiculed for displaying a ‘new accent’ at Philadelphia event: ‘Everything about her is artificial.’

Vice President Kamala Harris returned to Pennsylvania on Sunday, addressing a congregation at a church in Philadelphia. Following her speech, she faced criticism on social media for allegedly adopting a “new accent” during the event.

A popular conservative account on X, “End Wokeness,” shared a video of Harris, stating, “BREAKING: Kamala Harris unveils a new accent at a black Philadelphia church.”

Harris visited the Church of Christian Compassion, where she spoke to the largely Black audience, emphasizing that in just nine days, voters will “have the power to decide the fate of our nation for generations to come.”

“Here in Pennsylvania, right now each of us has an opportunity to make a difference. Because in this moment we do face a real question. What kind of country do we want to live in?” she said. “The great thing about living in a democracy is we the people have the choice to answer that question. So let us answer not just with our words, but with our works.”

In her speech, Harris referenced the Book of Psalms, saying, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the mornin’. The path may seem hard, the work may seem heavy, but joy cometh in the mornin’ and church morning is on its way.”

Critics on social media quickly seized on clips of her quoting Psalms, claiming she adopted a new “pastor” accent and likening her inflection to that of Martin Luther King Jr.

Harris has faced criticism in the past for adopting different “accents” while campaigning, including one last month during her speech to the Congressional Black Caucus and another that was likened to “Foghorn Leghorn” at a Labor Day rally in Detroit, where she addressed blue-collar union workers.

“Since when does the vice president have what sounds like a Southern accent?” Fox News’ Peter Doocy questioned White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre last month, referring to her Detroit speech that drew comparisons to the cartoon character “Foghorn Leghorn.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Jean-Pierre replied.

“Well, she was talking about unions in Detroit using one tone of voice, she used the same line in Pittsburgh, and it sounded like she at least had some kind of Southern drawl,” Doocy pressed.

“I mean, do you hear the question that you’re – I mean, do you think Americans seriously think that this is an important question?” Jean-Pierre pushed back. “You know what they care about? They care about the economy, they care about lowering costs, they care about health care. That’s what they want to hear… democracy and freedom… I’m not going to even entertain some question about… it’s just. Hearing it sounds so ridiculous. The question – I’m talking about the question – is just insane.”

Fox News Digital reached out to the Harris campaign for comment regarding the Philadelphia speech and criticism of her alleged “new accent,” but had not received a response as of Sunday afternoon.

Pennsylvania remains a crucial battleground state this election cycle. Trump won it in his 2016 victory, while President Biden secured it in 2020. Both Trump and Harris have made frequent visits to Pennsylvania recently, aiming to gather support in this state, which could be decisive in the election.

Later on Sunday, Harris will hold a campaign rally in Philadelphia, while Trump is scheduled to attend a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City that evening.
