Fox News Channel (FNC) concluded 2024 as the dominant force in cable news, achieving its highest audience share in nearly ten years. This milestone marks FNC’s ninth consecutive year as the most-watched cable network across all television platforms, according to Nielsen Media Research.
FNC captured 56% of the primetime cable news audience and 53% in total day viewership, its best performance since 2015. The network experienced double-digit growth across all viewership categories compared to 2023, solidifying its leadership position.
FNC’s comprehensive coverage of the 2024 election cycle played a key role in its success. The network attracted the largest audiences for critical political events such as presidential debates and election night reporting, underscoring its reputation for compelling and informative coverage during pivotal moments.
The network’s appeal extended beyond politics, drawing a diverse audience that included more Independents and Democrats compared to competitors. This broad viewership highlights FNC’s ability to resonate with audiences across the political spectrum.
FNC’s programming lineup also drove its ratings success. “The Five” became the first non-primetime cable news show to surpass four million viewers in a quarter. “Gutfeld!” led in the key 25-54 demographic, while “Jesse Watters Primetime” dominated the 18-49 demographic.
In contrast, competitors faced challenges. CNN recorded its smallest audience in network history, highlighting FNC’s dominance amid shifting cable news dynamics.
Suzanne Scott, CEO of Fox News Media, reflected on the network’s achievements:
“Throughout coverage of a tumultuous political cycle, wars in the Middle East, and major breaking news events, millions of viewers across the political spectrum continued to tune into FOX News Channel for our unrivaled reporting and analysis. I am extremely proud of our entire team for proving once again why we are the nation’s most-watched network as we outpaced the competition in covering the stories that mattered most to everyday Americans.”
With its strong performance, diverse programming, and widespread appeal, FNC is positioned to maintain its leadership in the cable news industry.
