Victor Davis Hanson, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institute, voiced serious concerns regarding President Donald Trump’s safety. He noted that the Biden-Harris administration and the Secret Service are the only ones with the ability to prevent future assassination attempts against Trump.
“It’s going to continue until either one of two things happen,” Hanson remarked. “The president of the United States—and I don’t think he’s capable of it—or the vice president—and she’s definitely not capable of it—say, ‘Let us not compare one another to mass murderers in history.’”

"Until you do that, you’re going to have more of these crazy guys like Routh," Hanson said. @DailyCaller https://t.co/05mtGd6Ay7
Hanson highlighted the atrocities committed by Hitler, emphasizing that no rational person should compare any contemporary political figure to someone who caused the deaths of millions. He urged Biden and Harris to issue a clear statement condemning this kind of rhetoric to help alleviate growing tensions.
“Adolf Hitler created the final solution that liquidated 6 million and started a war that killed 70 million, and neither me nor my opponent has anything to do with that or resembles that,” Hanson stated.
Hanson contended that this rhetoric only exacerbates an already perilous situation.
The sensitivity around this issue has heightened since Vice President Kamala Harris’s comments in December 2023, where she claimed in an MSNBC interview with Lawrence O’Donnell that Trump’s language had been “rightly” likened to Hitler.
In response, Trump has accused the Biden administration of using incendiary rhetoric that incites violence against him.
Hanson’s concerns go beyond political speech, emphasizing the need for the Secret Service to take a more proactive stance in preventing future assassination attempts. He advocated for clear communication to potential assailants that any attacks on prominent political figures would be met with swift and decisive retaliation.
“The Secret Service needs to warn these potential suspects that the agency is going to become so proactive you won’t know what hit you,” Hanson urged.

Hanson emphasized the urgent need for the Secret Service to convey a clear message, referencing similar comments made by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in the past.
“Until you do that, you’re going to have more of these crazy guys like Routh,” Hanson warned.
The latest assassination attempt is not an isolated event.
Hanson referenced a prior attempt on Trump’s life by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who fired multiple rounds at Trump and his supporters.
