Former President Donald Trump has commented on the recent revelations made by congressional investigators, who claim to have uncovered a $200,000 “direct payment” to President Joe Biden. This discovery is part of a Republican investigation into the Biden family’s business activities and allegations of influence peddling.
President Trump shared his thoughts on social media over the weekend, addressing what some members of the Republican party consider to be significant evidence suggesting President Biden’s direct involvement in his family’s business affairs.
“Check please,” President Trump wrote in the post, which featured a screengrab of Newsmax anchor Greg Kelly holding a facsimile of a personal check for $200,000 made out to “Joseph R. Biden Jr.”
The check, obtained and released to the public by Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) as part of a House Oversight Committee probe into President Biden, states that the money was for a “loan repayment.”
This payment was authorized by President Biden’s brother and sister-in-law, James and Sara Biden, and is dated March 1, 2018.
Mr. Comer, who has insisted on President Biden producing evidence to confirm that the money was, in fact, repayment of a loan and not some other form of transaction, has implied that this direct payment could be the most compelling proof so far of the president’s potential direct engagement in his family’s business ventures.
“Even if this was a personal loan repayment, it’s still troubling that Joe Biden’s ability to be paid back by his brother depended on the success of his family’s shady financial dealings,” Mr. Comer said in a statement.
Lawyers for Americore health told a court in July last year that the president’s brother, James Biden, received $600,000 in loans from the healthcare company “based upon representations that his last name, ‘Biden’, could ‘open doors’ and that he could obtain a large investment from the Middle East based on his political connections.”
On the exact date noted on the check payable to President Biden, March 1, 2018, Americore transferred a $200,000 loan to the personal bank account of James and Sara Biden.
A copy of this check has been acquired as part of the House Oversight Committee’s ongoing inquiry into the president and his family’s business activities.
Previously, the committee had made public more than 20 instances of evidence linking the president to his son Hunter Biden’s business involvements, with this check serving as the most recent addition to the evidence collected in the Republican investigation.
White House spokesperson Ian Sams has brushed aside the check as a “fresh diversion” and labeled it as another in a series of “political theatrics” by Republicans, aimed at undermining President Biden’s reputation.
President Trump, who has limited his comments to just two words, “Check please,” had his campaign delve into the emerging controversy in a fundraising letter.
“Crooked Joe has denied having any involvement in his family’s business dealings,” the letter states. remove
“When interrogated by a reporter about allegations of bribery, Biden said, ‘Where’s the money? Well, it looks like House Republicans have found the money,” the letter continued.
“The coincidences just keep piling up,” the fundraising email concluded. “Anyone with even a drop of common sense will tell you that Joe Biden is a CROOK.”
