In an increasingly heated exchange, Elon Musk took his rivalry with billionaire Mark Zuckerberg to a new level, using offensive language and referring to him as a “cuck” in a tweet on Sunday.
Since the recent launch of Zuckerberg’s Threads, a direct competitor to Musk’s Twitter, the two tech moguls have engaged in a series of taunting social media posts, threats of lawsuits, and even challenges to physical combat.
Musk’s derogatory remark came as a response to a lighthearted comment made by the official Wendy’s Twitter account, suggesting that Zuckerberg should go to space to aggravate Musk, in reference to his company SpaceX. In response, Zuckerberg simply replied with a laughing emoji.
When a Twitter user shared the exchange, Musk noticed and directed his uncouth comment towards Zuckerberg.
The reaction from commenters varied, with some expressing shock and disapproval of Musk’s tweet, others mistaking it for a parody account, and many applauding the audacity of his post.
Within a day of its launch, Threads garnered over 30 million users, posing a significant threat to the struggling Twitter. Since Musk acquired the social media platform in October, it has faced internal turmoil, including mass layoffs, controversial changes to features like blue-check verification, and public policy alterations initiated by the billionaire.
Zuckerberg’s launch of Threads, designed to complement Instagram, has attracted users who have become disillusioned with Twitter during its chaotic transition.
In response, Musk swiftly resorted to damage control, issuing threats of legal action against Meta Platforms, the parent company of Threads, a day after its release.
