Backlash Against AOC’s Response in a ‘Gentle’ MSNBC Interview With Jen Psaki

Criticism Mounts as AOC Responds in a ‘Friendly’ MSNBC Interview With Jen Psaki

During an interview on MSNBC’s “The Big Weekend Show,” Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., faced criticism for what some labeled as a softball interview.

Host Jen Psaki asked Rep. Ocasio-Cortez about common misconceptions people have about her, to which the congresswoman responded that she diligently does her homework.

This reply received backlash from various individuals, including Fox News contributor Dr. Nicole Saphier, who described the congresswoman’s response as “pathetic.”

“That says ‘I am mediocre at best and I will do the minimum possible. I’m going to show up for congressional hearings, and I’ll have read the pamphlet that someone put together for me’,” Saphier said.

“That’s what that says,” the Fox News contributor concluded.

Saphier went on to condemn Ocasio-Cortez, accusing her of adopting a “mediocre” approach in her capacity as a representative and asserting that the New York Democrat has an unreliable relationship with factual information.

“She misspoke about the Keystone pipeline, her 2023 TikTok video, where she essentially made a TikTok account saying we shouldn’t be banning TikTok– that’s ‘banning free speech,” Saphier said.

Critics of Ocasio-Cortez also raised concerns about several instances where they alleged that the representative either misquoted facts or demonstrated a limited understanding of specific issues.

These alleged instances have fueled skepticism among critics who view Ocasio-Cortez’s response during the interview as more of a deflecting tactic rather than a genuine reflection of her legislative competence.

While appearing on MSNBC, co-host Tom Shillue commended Ocasio-Cortez for her political savvy, particularly highlighting her adept utilization of social media to connect and engage with her constituents.

The co-hosts also touched upon previous controversies involving Ocasio-Cortez, such as her choice to wear a “Tax the Rich” dress to the 2021 Met Gala, which drew accusations of hypocrisy. According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, she was criticized for condemning wealth inequality while attending a lavish event, especially considering her personal wealth growth since becoming a member of Congress after working as a bartender in the Bronx.

As the discussion surrounding Ocasio-Cortez’s interview continues, observers will undoubtedly closely monitor her actions in the upcoming weeks to assess whether her claim of doing her homework is reflected in her legislative endeavors on Capitol Hill.
