From addressing the border crisis to military policies and education, these are Donald Trump’s priorities as he plans his return to the White House.
Donald Trump has promised swift action starting on January 20, 2025, outlining a series of measures he intends to implement immediately upon taking office. His top priorities include securing the border, conducting a large-scale deportation effort, tackling inflation, increasing energy production, and revitalizing American manufacturing.
Immediate Priorities
Trump’s “day one” agenda emphasizes resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict, closing the southern border, initiating deportation plans, and defunding schools that promote Critical Race Theory, gender ideology, or vaccine mandates.
Fox News host Bret Baier remarked, “I’ve been told it’s going to be shock and awe as far as executive orders… They’re going to throw a lot in the first day and maybe a couple of days that will have to be digested.”
According to Axios, Trump and his advisers discussed plans for up to 100 executive orders in a meeting with Republican senators, though it remains unclear how many will be issued on the first day.
Key Focus Areas
Illegal Immigration
A central focus of the Trump administration will be addressing the border crisis.
“On day one of the Trump presidency, I will restore the travel ban, suspend refugee admissions, stop the resettlement, and keep the terrorists the hell out of our country,” Trump declared in July.
Karoline Leavitt, a Trump spokesperson, stated in December, “On day one, he is going to launch the largest mass deportation of illegal immigrants in American history.”
Plans reportedly include rebuilding the border wall, constructing facilities to detain migrants, imposing stricter asylum policies, and reintroducing Title 42, which allows for rapid deportation of migrants. Additionally, Trump intends to end the visa-free parole process for people from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela and roll back certain Homeland Security policies.
Military Policies and Transgender Issues
Trump reportedly plans to end taxpayer-funded transgender medical procedures for military members, including surgeries and hormone treatments, citing concerns about deployability. During his first term, Trump reversed an Obama-era policy allowing transgender troops, and the Supreme Court upheld his decision in 2019.
Criticizing the Biden administration’s military policies, Trump vowed: “You need people that want to win wars. That’s their purpose, not to be woke.”
He also pledged to appoint Pete Hegseth, a vocal opponent of “woke” military policies, as Secretary of Defense.
DEI and Education
Trump is expected to issue an executive order to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs within the federal government, fulfilling a campaign promise to remove “Marxist” bureaucracies.
He also plans to cut federal funding for schools promoting Critical Race Theory, gender ideology, or politically charged curricula.
January 6 Pardons
Trump has repeatedly indicated his willingness to pardon individuals charged in connection with the January 6 Capitol riot, stating, “Most likely, I’ll do it very quickly… I’m looking first day.”
Women’s Sports
Trump has pledged to prohibit biological males from participating in female sports, a promise he may address through a “day one” executive order.
Energy and Economy
To bolster the economy, Trump vowed to eliminate federal regulations that increase the cost of goods. He also committed to revoking offshore oil and gas drilling bans immediately upon taking office.
Trump’s planned “day one” executive orders suggest a broad and sweeping effort to deliver on campaign promises, with significant changes anticipated across immigration, military policy, education, and energy sectors.
