President Trump’s online trolling of political opponents has often been a spectacle, though surprisingly, he hasn’t gone after Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) much despite the plentiful opportunities. However, he couldn’t resist taking a shot this week when misfortune struck the young socialist.
As reported by The Gateway Pundit, AOC lost her bid for leadership of the influential House Oversight Committee to the veteran 74-year-old Virginia Democrat Gerry Connolly, despite strong efforts to position the Democrats as embracing younger leadership. Connolly secured 131 votes, leaving AOC with just 84.
AOC responded by apologizing to her supporters, vowing to “fight another day” after falling short. There have also been rumors suggesting that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi played a role in sabotaging AOC’s bid, an impressive feat given Pelosi’s recent struggles with a broken hip. This could complicate AOC’s rumored presidential ambitions as well.
Trump, who has been particularly active on social media recently, seized the chance to mock AOC with a witty and sarcastic remark. He expressed mock sympathy, urging her to keep trying, while likely knowing that any future success for her would only benefit the Republican Party.
“Really too bad that AOC lost the Battle for the Leadership Seat in the Democrat Party,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “She should keep trying. Someday, she will be successful!”
Contrary to expectations that AOC would react angrily, she took the jab in stride, possibly missing the sarcastic intent.
“Damn you know it’s bad when even Trump is feeling bad for me,” AOC replied, with a laughing emoji.
