During a Friday interview, Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz stated that voters need not worry about the differences between Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden.
While campaigning in five states, including the key battleground of Pennsylvania, Walz was asked by WPVI anchor Brian Taff to outline the main distinctions between Harris and Biden. Instead, he chose to criticize former President Donald Trump.
“The difference between Kamala Harris and Joe Biden is not what [voters] need to be concerned with,” Walz told Taff. “They need to be concerned with a Donald Trump who has said he would be a dictator on day one.”
According to the RealClearPolling average, Trump currently leads Harris by 0.1% in Pennsylvania polls conducted between September 19 and October 10. However, when independent candidate Cornel West, Green Party candidate Dr. Jill Stein, and Libertarian Chase Oliver are included, Harris has a 0.2% lead over Trump.
Harris has had difficulty articulating how her presidency would differ from Biden’s during the few interviews she has given since Biden announced he would not seek reelection on July 21. She appeared on “60 Minutes” on Monday, followed by interviews with Howard Stern, the co-hosts of “The View,” and CBS late-night host Stephen Colbert on Tuesday.
Additionally, Harris has distanced herself from the more progressive positions she held during her 2020 presidential campaign, mainly through statements from campaign aides. Her campaign’s “issues” section on its website seems to replicate content from Biden’s reelection campaign site.
