Kamala Harris Set to Announce Her Running Mate Selection

On Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris will reveal her running mate as she and her new political partner kick off their first joint rally in Philadelphia. According to Politico, the pair will tour seven swing states over four days, making stops in Philadelphia, western Wisconsin, Detroit, Raleigh, Savannah, Phoenix, and Las Vegas. Beyond the major rallies, Harris and her running mate will engage with voters in more intimate settings such as restaurants and union halls, with local officials joining them at each location.

“This swing will allow the Vice President and her running mate to speak directly with voters in their communities and cement the contrast between our ticket and Trump’s,” the campaign said.

The announcement of her running mate follows Harris spending the past 48 hours evaluating potential candidates, according to multiple reports.

According to the New York Times and the Washington Post, Harris set aside time over the weekend to meet in person with the finalists before making her final decision. UPI reports that Covington & Burling, the Washington law firm handling the vetting process for Harris, completed its work on Thursday and delivered its findings to Harris, as noted by the Times, citing two sources familiar with the process.

The Post, also citing unnamed campaign sources, reported that Harris had narrowed her options to six finalists: Governors Andy Beshear of Kentucky, J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, and Tim Walz of Minnesota, along with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona.

On Friday, Harris was officially nominated by the Democratic Party after securing enough delegates through online voting, as reported by Breitbart News. She was the sole candidate eligible for votes following the party’s closure of the qualifying process on Tuesday.
